italy: part 4

Meet Florence. Isn't it beautiful? It better be, because I hiked a few miles in these clogs and up the biggest hill I've ever seen in these things. Whew. At least I looked cute doing it, sweaty, but somewhat cute still. This was one of the most beautiful sunsets I've ever seen! We ate gelato, listened to music, met new friends, and soaked up the Florence sunset. How stylish does Logan look? He out dressed me every day, looks like I need to step up my game.

italy: part 3

This was the second and last time I wore jeans in Italy, but it was actually somewhat cooler on this day. Excuse my face in these photos. It was the end of the day and all I really wanted to do was eat (some more) and then sleep. Check out that pigeon on my arm! Most people don't agree, but I think these birds are kind of cute and they're definitely hilarious to watch.

My favorite part of this outfit is my hair clip! I bought this clip the day before and it's made of venetian glass. I thought it was a perfect little souvenir that was actually useful and wouldn't just sit and collect dust for years. If I haven't mentioned yet, Venice was my favorite city! It was peaceful, old, charming, and beautiful. I loved all of the things we saw, our hotel, the food was amazing, and how cool is a city that does everything on water! It just felt so much more relaxed then anywhere else and it was definitely one of my favorite places we visited. I hope you guys aren't tired of Italy yet, we have a few more posts to go ;)

uniquely you

Uniquely You

I have always been a fan of Modcloth! Who's with me?? I love Modcloth for a number of reasons. One being, look at that dress!! It's so beautiful and it's the epitome of "lady-like." They always have unique, trendy, classic, and adorable options and a wide variety of styles to chose from, not to mention, they post new styles almost every day!

I love this dress (above) because it's extremely feminine and the style is super flattering on just about everybody! My opinion, is that a V-neck compliments every body type and the floral pattern is just perfect enough to add interest to this simple, girly ensemble. Even better, this particular dress comes in sizes 0-24! This is also another reason why I love Modcloth. There's options for everyone and all of the sizes are  in together, as one; they execute their plus size pieces so well!

As the dress as my centerpiece, I stuck with the "lady-like" theme because I felt like it was fitting. I'm inspired by women of the past and always have been! Some of my favorites include Audrey Hepburn, Amelia Earhart, Lucille Ball, Jackie O, Princess Diana, and many others. There's something to be said about how these women carried themselves, including what they wore. It's SO intriguing to me to gather inspiration and ideas from history!

I included all of my favorite elements that scream "I'm a lady!" I kept the jewelry minimum and not too flashy, and the pearls on this necklace were just the right amount! Aren't these heels to die for!? Every woman deserves a good pair of adorable heels; I chose these because I fell in love with the blush pink color and ankle strap. I wanted to mix prints a little to add interest, so I chose the polka dot version of this bag and now I want it for myself! It's the cutest and a good size to hold all your papers, folders, laptop, snacks and whatever else a little lady might need for the day! I added simple accessories like the hat, sunglasses, and watch to keep the focus on the dress, all of which are beautiful and can be worn many other ways as well. The round sunglasses are so "retro!" Lastly, what would a lady-like outfit be without lace? This lace cardigan adds depth, layers and finishes off the whole look.

Don't you want to go buy all of these pieces right now?! I know online shopping can sometimes be scary, but that's another awesome thing about Modcloth; they make returns and exchanges super easy and stress free! Trust me, I've done it more times then I can count and their always so fast and their customer service is outstanding. Some of my other favorite Modcloth dresses for the summer are the It's Meant to Bead Dress, Air of Adorable Dress in BalloonsWhite Haute Cocoa Dress, Playwright Date Dress in Chambray, High Socie-tea Dress in Floral, and the Breakfast and Bliss Dress. So many options to find one that's unique to your style!

italy: part 2

I wore this outfit on our last day in Florence! It's cute, casual, interesting, but also comfy enough for riding in the car for a few hours. Although, I did end up in a tank top mid-day. This sweater is from an amazing line at LOFT that I just discovered called Lou and Grey. I've heard many people talking about it lately too and it really is as great as it sounds! They have accessible, comfortable, simple, soft, and extremely adorable pieces! Not to mention, I got this particular sweater on sale for $4.88! Boo-yah! That's a steal!

I'm also obsessed with the colors in this necklace and plan to wear it a whole bunch this summer! You really can't go wrong with cute, cozy, with a splash of color. So this, my friends, is my idea of a travel outfit.

italy: part 1

Hi guys! I'm so glad to be home and back to blogging with you guys! Our trip to Italy was SO much fun and I wanted to take a few posts to share a little bit of it with you! Now, to be honest, we didn't get a TON of outfit pictures, mainly for one reason, that reason being that it was way hotter then we expected and I usually ended up in the bare minimums by the end of each day. While traveling and walking all day everyday, comfort over cuteness is what you should chose, you'll be glad you did.
I only wore jeans twice on this trip, then I got smart and realized that sweating in jeans has to be one of the worst feelings ever. In the name of fashion, I managed to stay in jeans for the entire day on this particular day, it was a challenge to say the least. How awesome is this background? Everything was beautiful, so picking a location was the easiest decision this time!

guest post: katie mcgee

how would you describe your personal style?
feminine, simple, and vintage-inspired.

on any given day, what can we find you wearing?
you will more than likely find me in a dress or skirt. i’m pretty sure i have a few close friends who have never seen me in pants, but i’m okay with that! i love the simplicity of throwing on one object of clothing and some great earrings.
even when i’m sitting at home editing all day, i do try to look presentable, so comfortable cotton dresses are a must-have for me.

you dress your body so well, what things do you look for in pieces when shopping?
anything high-waisted, gathered, or falls at the natural waist! i stay away from intense patterns and try to keep things soft and flowy.

what cuts, shapes, or colors do you avoid?
i try to stay away from shapeless dresses and anything with a high neckline. when a neckline is too high, it makes me feel more bulky. as far as colors go, i try to stay away from anything that makes me look even more pale ;)

you're an amazing photographer - what's your go to outfit for long days of shooting weddings?
thanks, friend! my goal on wedding days is to be comfortable while also feeling cute. i usually stick to a darker dress, minimal accessories, and comfortable flats. Reef provides flats that are cute and feel like fluffy clouds!

where are your favorite places to shop?
i shop mostly online at ASOS, ModClotheShakti...and Target. ASOS has incredible variety and is good with pricing. ModCloth can tend to be on the expensive side, but they often have a dress or shirt that i dare not live without! the lovely thing about eShakti is that it does custom sizing for all body types AND the clothes are cute. shopping as a plus size girl in her 20s can be very discouraging, but knowing what works for your body and knowing where to find it can save you from a ton of frustration!

biggest issue you come across being a tall, curvy girl?
everything is so short! i am blessed with a seamstress mother who alters many things and makes skirts for me! i have been known to break out the scissors immediately after trying on a new clothing item. almost everything i buy is altered in some way, so i am grateful for someone who knows what they’re doing (and can fix my cutting mistakes)! ;)

what's one piece of style advice you would give women with curves and/or height?
i think this can apply to women of any size, but be mindful that what you wear can completely reflect how you feel about yourself! if you don’t feel confident in it, don’t wear it! for me, t-shirts and sweats are for the gym or a rainy day full of errands. there is something empowering about a well put together outfit, even if it’s very simple :)
