june goals

So it's about that time again. Time to set goals for the next month! I did pretty well with last months goals, the only one I didn't do is take more pictures. I always seem to forget! I did run 3 miles without stopping...pretty crazy for me.

 These are my goals for June:

1. Take more pictures, again.

2. Run 5 miles without stopping.

3. Go to Italy (this is kind of already happening, today!)

4. Try new recipes.

You've got to start somewhere right!

While I'm gone, my good friend and amazing photographer, Katie, will be guest blogging a few times! Check out her blog HERE!

 I can't wait to share all of our pictures and outfits from our trip! In the meantime, follow me on Instagram @ladylikelace!

let it flow

So, here's one thing you don't actually see on the blog: my husband and I deciding where to take photos. We act like it's the most serious decision we've ever made, every time. Sometimes we even pick a spot, hate the pictures, then move to another spot. It's all just trial and error really! You've seen this location before, what you can't see (hopefully) is the portable bathroom behind me! BUT, this sunlight, I mean, it's why we keep loving this location. It always hits so great on this spot! So there's a little behind the scenes information for you- sometimes everything around me isn't that pretty, but it's amazing what cropping and photography can do.

In other news, sometimes I don't want any clothes really touching my body. We all have those days, or weeks, right? That's just life you guys. So this is about unshapely as it gets, but it works. If you're going to go flowy, then let it flow girlll.

giveaway || mommasnake

I'm so excited to introduce you to today's giveaway from Mommasnake jewelry! I asked Erin, the hands and heart behind the jewelry, to share with us a little bit about how she got started! (see below on how to enter)

1. When and how did Mommasnake begin?

I grew up in a very artistic home, and was always encouraged to create things. My dad is a talented musician and my mom is an artist through and through. In high school, I spent my days painting and making my own clothes. I was fascinated with fashion, and when I couldn't find jewelry or clothing that I liked in department stores, I just made them. My love for jewelry started developing more in my 20's and I started taking metal smith classes- I was hooked! I started developing my skills and making my own jewelry. My friends started noticing pieces that I made and were my first customers! After that, I began to set up shop at trunk shows, started an Etsy store, then some clothing stores started carrying my pieces.

2. How would you describe Mommasnake's style?

My motto in life is a quote by Calamity Jane: "I figure, if a girl wants to be a legend, she should just go ahead and be one." Mommasnake jewelry is for the girl who loves to travel, isn't afraid to take risks, someone who is a dreamer. It's wonderful how just one little trinket can inspire you or give you an extra bit of courage. I think that's why I make each piece, they're made out of things that give me a boost of inspiration and boldness. I started making pieces out of pyrite, or "fools gold" and I felt amazing every time I wore them. I found out that the Greek word for pyrite is "purit─ôs", meaning "of fire", because it sparks when struck against steel. When I found that out, I started thinking about that every time I wore those pieces. They're still some of my favorite necklaces that I've made.

3. What can we expect from Mommasnake in the days and months to come?

A men's collection is coming soon! I love it when guys see my jewelry and want pieces for themselves. I love masculine jewelry and I can't wait to introduce pieces for the boys! Also, I am in love with glass and prisms right now. I've been making prisms lately- I love how pure they look and how they catch the light. I might devote an entire collection to glass pieces! Personally, over the next year I'm expanding my metal skills. I'm taking a blacksmith apprenticeship soon, and I'm pretty stoked to see how it influences my jewels.

I picked this necklace out myself, it was my absolute favorite! I mean look how cool it is, right! All of her pieces are amazing and you guys are so lucky to have the chance to win this for yourself!

newness

Whenever I purchase new pieces for my wardrobe there's always this sense of newness that I want to preserve for as long as I can. I keep the tag on everything until I wear it; I know, it's weird. But with tag attached, it's almost like I don't want to wear it until an "important event." Most times, that important event really never comes. My mind super plays tricks on me! It's really just the fact that it looks pretty in the closet and I know once I wear it there's opportunities to stain it (this is most likely) or ruin it. I could take this analogy to a deeper level and apply it to our lives....but I'll spare you and save that life lesson for another time.;)

All that to say, I was going to try and save these items for our trip coming up, but it just didn't happen. This is huge for me. Clothes are meant to be worn, a lot! So wear them I say, wear them! Also, please take notice of my old lady "wedges." I could wear them to bed...I won't-but I could. However, I will be sporting them most days this summer though, that's a guarantee!

polka dot pants

I've been REALLY gravitating to all things polka dots lately! I think they are so girly, timeless, but yet fun and interesting. I've had these pants for about a year now and I wear them a lot! They're perfect for when I want something more exciting then just plain denim, but I still want to keep it pretty neutral. There are so many variations of polka dots out there, big, small, all different colors, spread out, close together, and the list goes on. I even recently just purchased a polka dot workout tank top. You've got to look cute while getting your fitness on too, right! Who else is on the polka dot train with me?

friday five: mom

In honor of mother's day Sunday, I thought I would give five reasons why I love my mom. Even though I can think of way more reasons, this is the Friday five, not the Friday fifty ;) We all have moms, right. Some of us may have never have met our moms, or maybe she isn't around anymore. Maybe some of us have someone that's a motherly figure, and is just like a mom to you. But we all know the importance and the role that moms play. I don't take it lightly that I have an amazing mom. I hope that one day, I'm at least half the mom she is!

1. She's always there- This is cliche, but it's so true for me. My mom (and my dad too) have always been right there with me! They were at every volleyball, basketball, and softball game, and one spelling bee that I was in ;) True story, in elementary school, my class was having a Valentine's Day party and I was afraid I wouldn't get any valentine's from the other kids, so I asked my mom to come to the party too, "Just in case." Well, luckily, I got valentine's and chatted with friends the whole party, but my mom was there and that's all I needed!

2. She's pretty stylish- I got my love for style and shopping from my mom, without a doubt. She always has looked so put together and stylish. My mom always has been and always will be my favorite shopping buddy. We both can be pretty hardcore shoppers, I mean, one time we got in the back of a white van for a handbag, maybe not the best idea at the time, but it sure was fun!

3. She's encouraging and loving- My mom has always been a big encouragement to me! She's my biggest cheerleader and always has honest, but positive words of encouragement and advice for me. No matter what stage of life I'm in. I have always known that my mom loves me, everyday, and for that I am forever thankful to her!

4. She makes everything special- Both my parents have always made it a point to make everything special for us, I mean everything single thing. This is one thing that I am for sure going to be intentional about with my kids because it was something that my parents did that really stood out. Every holiday was a big deal at our house and it was so much fun! My mom made me costumes for spirit days and Halloween and every Valentine's day I would wake up to balloons, candy, and gifts. Christmas was the biggest deal, as it should be! We remembered the real reason for Christmas, but my parents always took it a step further. My mom always took so much time decorating our home and our rooms to make it feel happy and festive! We always had exciting gifts even though I know they probably couldn't afford some of them at the time or they didn't want some of them, mainly all the pets  I asked for ;) Birthdays were the most fun ever at our house too! I loved how much effort and time my mom put into everything to make it special for us, including all the amazing road trips and family vacations we took!

5. She's determined and adventurous- My mom is the most organized and determined person I know! She graduated college in her 40's, is willing to try anything once, and loves to go on new adventures! She has a plan (and sometimes doesn't) and she goes after things with her whole heart! She's content and lives in the moment, something I need to do more of! I love my mom for her go-getter attitude and free spirit.

There's so many more things I could put, these are just a few that jumped out at me right away! What do you love about your mom this Mother's Day and always??
